Greek Evening Collaboration
We might have been sitting under drifts of purple jacaranda petals in the Consumer Studies garden on a balmy October evening, but the décor, music, dancing and food transported us to a Greek taverna.
The Grade 10 and 11 Consumer Studies students under the guidance of their teachers, Mrs Hanlie Podd and Mrs Lize Venter, prepared and served a fine three-course meal of various tastes, textures and colours to delight our senses.
Between the starter and the main course, we had the pleasure of listening to a conversation with Costa Ayiotis about his life, Greek food, and writing. He has published two memoirs, My Big Fat Greek Taverna and Matriarchs, Meze, and the Evil Eye, copies of which he has donated to our school library. He also generously gave copies to the Consumer Studies students who had served us so well.
After savouring the delicious main course, we were entertained by a troupe of young Greek dancers. The evening concluded with sweet enjoyment of honeyed confectionary. It had been a delightfully tasteful and taste-filled Greek Evening.
