Welcoming Our Grade 0 Girls into the Chapel
This term we celebrated a special St Mary’s tradition as our Grade 0 girls were formally welcomed into the School Chapel space.
Each girl entered the chapel accompanied by a Grade 7 mentor. Holding a candle, they lit their flame from the Sisonke candle and symbolically brought their light into the chapel. This moment reflects Jesus’ words in Matthew 5:16: “Let your light shine before others.”
From this day forward, the Gr 0 girls begin attending chapel services and assemblies, becoming part of the spiritual life and rhythm of the Junior School community.
This meaningful tradition comes full circle in Grade 7 when, at their valediction service, the girls symbolically carry their light out of the chapel, a reminder that their time in the Junior School has shaped them, and that the light they carry continues to shine wherever they go.
