Voices and Vibes: An Evening of Music and Connection
St Mary’s DSG Pretoria was privileged to host the internationally acclaimed Minnesota Boychoir on Wednesday, 17 June, as part of the choir’s first-ever tour to South Africa. The concert, titled Voices and Vibes, brought together young musicians from across continents in a celebration of music, friendship and cultural exchange.
The evening featured memorable performances by the Minnesota Boychoir alongside our own talented choirs: St Mary’s Thorišo Singers, Salon Singers, St Mary’s Singers and Marimba Bands, creating a vibrant showcase of musical excellence. From powerful choral works to energetic African rhythms, the programme highlighted the universal language of music and its remarkable ability to connect people from different backgrounds.
Founded more than 60 years ago, the Minnesota Boychoir has earned an international reputation for artistic excellence and has performed on five continents. Led by Executive and Artistic Director Mark Johnson, the choir’s South African tour was designed to foster cultural exchange through collaborative performances with leading South African ensembles.
A particular highlight of the evening was the spirit of collaboration on display with a mass choir finale. The warm response from the audience affirmed the importance of opportunities such as these, where students experience world-class performances while engaging with artists from around the globe.
St Mary’s extends its sincere gratitude to the Minnesota Boychoir, Classical Movements, our dedicated music staff, performers, and everyone who contributed to the success of this special event.
When young voices come together, they remind us that music knows no borders.
