Marimbas, Music and Memories at Southdowns College
On Monday, 21 September, our Grade 4–6 Marimba Ensemble and Grade 7 Marimba Ensemble had the privilege of participating in a wonderful Marimba Festival hosted by Southdowns College. We were one of three invited schools, alongside Southdowns College and Tyger Valley College.
Our Grade 4–6 girls opened the evening with an energetic set featuring the traditional Gumbo Muchochocho and the ever-popular Baby Shark. The Grade 7s then took to the stage and wowed the audience with Bella Ciao by Nicole Elocin & Tyler ICU, Marimba Nation by Mike Sibanda, and Birds of a Feather by Billie Eilish.
It was an evening filled with incredible music-making, infectious rhythms, and plenty of grooving! We are incredibly proud of all our students for their enthusiasm and musicianship. A special thank you to Mr Mike Sibanda, the talented conductor of both ensembles, for inspiring our students and bringing such energy to their performances. What a special evening of music, Ubuntu and celebration!
