History and Geography Olympiads
The Grade 11 and 12 History girls of St Mary’s DSG Pretoria participated in the HOZA History Olympiad on 14 May with enthusiasm, commitment, and a positive competitive spirit. The Olympiad provided our girls with an excellent opportunity to extend their historical knowledge, engage critically with historical sources and interpretations, and apply analytical skills beyond the classroom environment. The experience proved academically enriching as our girls were exposed to different types of questions and sources, putting their historical skills to the test. The feedback from our students was positive as they felt it exposed them to different types of questions and source that can be utilised during their studies.
On 12 May 2026, our Grade 10 to 12 geographers participated in the Southern African National Geography Olympiad (SANGO). This Olympiad plays an important role in building confidence, enabling our girls to perform more effectively in tests and examinations. It also provides an opportunity for students to sharpen their critical thinking skills and deepen their knowledge of Geography. Through this experience, our girls are challenged to apply what they have learned in meaningful ways. Overall, SANGO contributes positively to both academic growth and subject mastery!
