Heritage Day Tree Donation
We were honoured to answer President Cyril Ramaphosa’s call to participate in the Ten Million Trees Programme. In partnership with the Department of Forestry, Fisheries and the Environment, our Junior School received a generous donation of ten trees, consisting of both fruit-bearing and indigenous species. Following the president’s guideline of planting 60% fruit trees and 40% indigenous trees, each grade from Grade 00 to Grade 7 took part in planting a tree alongside their grandparents. The trees were blessed by our Junior School Chaplain, adding a meaningful and spiritual touch to the occasion.
The Department will monitor the growth of the trees over the next year and return in September to observe their progress.
This initiative forms part of the National Greening Programme, which aligns with Goal 13 of the United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goals, Climate Action. The programme aims to increase greenery in urban spaces, enhance the beauty of our cities, and help combat the impacts of climate change. As a Level 4 Platinum Eco School under WESSA, we take great pride in supporting this national effort and in nurturing a true “living heritage.”
