Daily Habits that Help a Family to Thrive

- Mrs Melinda Grimm

As we welcome the end of winter, the start of a new season and the last term of the year, it is a good time shift the focus from a time of rest, to a time of growth. Here are some activities to engage in to plant the seeds of wellbeing, and to grow healthy new habits as a family.

Soak up some sunshine

  • Spend time outdoors every day.
  • Walk the dog, ride bikes, or play in the garden.
  • Fresh air and sunlight can boost mood and energy.

Grow connection

  • Share one meal together each day.
  • Ask: "What was the best part of your day?"
  • Put devices away during family conversations.

Water positive emotions

  • Notice and talk about feelings.
  • Practise gratitude.
  • Celebrate small successes and efforts.

Feed mind and body

  • Prioritise healthy meals and adequate sleep.
  • Encourage regular exercise.
  • Keep a consistent bedtime routine.

Pull out the weeds

  • Reduce unnecessary stress and overscheduling.
  • Limit excessive screen time.
  • Let go of unrealistic expectations.

As with any seedling, personal growth takes time, patience and care. Small steps can yield big results over time as you continue to nurture your family’s growth.
