A Message from the Head of the Junior School

- Mrs Thobeka Mngambi

May has been a special month in the life of our Junior School. Workers’ Day reminded us to pause and appreciate the many people whose dedication and care help our school flourish each day. Mother’s Day is always a heartfelt occasion where our girls celebrate the mothers, grandmothers and special women who guide and support them. Africa Day allowed us to embrace and celebrate the richness, diversity and beauty of our beautiful continent.

Season 2 of sport has brought wonderful energy to school life, with netball taking centre stage. All the fixtures and enthusiastic support from the sidelines as our girls move from classrooms to courts with determination and team spirit has been remarkable. A particularly special highlight has been the Grade 1 sport and Mini Netball; watching our Grade 1-3 girls step onto the courts with excitement, confidence and joy has been incredibly heartwarming and a reminder of how important these early experiences are in building skill, courage and belonging.

Our Arts and Culture programme has continued to flourish, with girls participating in Pierneef and various Eisteddfods, confidently sharing their creativity and talents on stage while balancing their academic responsibilities. The month also provided enriching learning opportunities beyond the classroom, including participation in the South African Mathematics Challenge, while our Grade 2 girls enjoyed a memorable Gautrain trip which was a first-time experience for many of them.

One of the most encouraging sights this season has been the growing number of parents proudly wearing their supporters’ t-shirts while cheering on our girls. Children flourish when they feel seen, supported and celebrated, and your presence truly makes a lasting difference. Thank you for partnering with us in creating these special memories for our girls.

I would also like to thank our Communications Team for the newly designed EdAdmin Parent Portal, which has made accessing information and important documents far simpler for families.

As we look ahead to June and Youth Month, we are excited to create more opportunities for our girls to develop and showcase their leadership skills with confidence.
