Art Beat 2025
This year, our school theme is P.A.G.E, which stands for Pause And Go Explore. What a perfect message for tonight , a chance to pause, appreciate, and explore the creativity of our young learners. Through art, our girls have paused to reflect on big ideas, and explored new ways of thinking, seeing, and expressing themselves.
At St Mary’s DSG, we believe that Art is for everyone. Our philosophy is simple, to unleash each girl’s potential and creativity in a safe, encouraging, and non-threatening environment. In the Art room, every voice matters, every idea is welcomed, and every mistake is part of the journey.
The girls are taught a wide range of art skills – from drawing and painting, to collage, printmaking, sculpture, digital design, and more. We focus on these skills not just to improve technique, but to teach observation, patience, imagination, and critical thinking.
Every artwork you see tonight represents a journey. The girls began by brainstorming and researching, then moved through planning, experimenting with techniques, exploring materials, and reflecting on their progress. Along the way, they discovered that art is not just about the final piece, but about thinking, questioning, and expressing themselves.
In our lessons, we also embrace technology. Digital drawing, photography, and other tools open new possibilities, connect the girls to global ideas, and prepare them for the creative world of the future.
The themes on display are rich and varied—some raise awareness about environmental issues, others draw inspiration from great artists, while many reflect the beauty of our school and the sense of belonging it creates. One project, in particular, invites us to pause, look into the eyes of our girls, and truly see them as individuals.
Each work is a unique voice, a personal story told through art. I encourage you to read the accompanying blurbs, which reveal the thought and emotion behind every creation.
