Our teaching philosophy
Grade 00 (4 to 5 years) is a year of self-discovery
Grade 00 (4 to 5 years) is a year of self-discovery where every girl is given the opportunity, through a blend of play-based activities, interactive lessons and hands-on experiences, to be curious, explore and make meaning of her world.
We place strong emphasis on every girl’s social-emotional development as she learns to self-regulate, make meaning of her emotions and collaborate with her peers. This is accomplished in a nurturing and caring classroom setting that promotes the development of the individual and ignites a lifelong love for learning.
Our Grade 0 girls are curious, eager, innocent, excited, playful and filled with potential. So, appropriately, we call this their year of fun-filled exploration. At this age, children learn best through play, so we don’t introduce formal learning at this stage.
Our strong focus is on growing the girls’ perceptual, gross and fine-motor muscle skills, and to stimulate them through sensory learning.
This year, language enrichment centres on finding the joy in books as we build pre-reading skills and phonemic awareness. We also introduce mathematical vocabulary, with an emphasis on building sound number concepts.
