Welcoming our new Senior School staff members in 2025
As we enter 2025, we are thrilled to introduce a group of exceptional educators who will join the St Mary’s DSG family. Each of these talented individuals brings a wealth of skills, unique talents, and valuable experience that will further enrich our dynamic and diverse community.
We are delighted to have them join our team, and we look forward to the positive impact they will make on our students and the school as a whole. Their expertise and passion for education will undoubtedly inspire our girls, helping them to explore their potential and achieve their dreams.
Mr Jon-Reece Evans – Assistant Chaplain
We are delighted to welcome Mr Jon-Reece Evans as our permanent Assistant Chaplain. After serving as locum Assistant Chaplain for two terms, Mr Evans has made a lasting impression with his engaging messages in Chapel and Divinity lessons. The girls and staff have enjoyed learning from his inspiring teachings and singing along to new worship songs. We look forward to his continued guidance and spiritual mentorship at St Mary’s DSG.
Mrs René Kirton – Afrikaans Teacher
Joining us from Reddam House Waterfall, Mrs René Kirton is an experienced educator with a BEd degree from North-West University, specialising in Afrikaans. As an Independent Education Board (IEB) marker and oral moderator, René brings a wealth of expertise in teaching Afrikaans and Mathematics to students from diverse backgrounds. A devoted mom of two, René’s passion for education shines through in her work, and we are thrilled to have her join our community.
Ms Cristina Nanabhay – Head of the Mathematics Department
Ms Cristina Nanabhay joins St Mary’s DSG as the new Head of the Mathematics Department. With several degrees from the University of Johannesburg, including a Master of Education in Mathematics and STEM Education, Cristina is a dedicated advocate for gender equality in Mathematics and STEM. Her goal is to foster inclusivity through mentorship and community engagement. Specialising in Senior Phase, FET Mathematics, and Further Studies Maths, Cristina brings a dynamic and innovative approach to mathematics education.
Ms Esti du Toit – Afrikaans and Geography Teacher
A familiar face at St Mary’s DSG, Ms Esti du Toit, will transition from intern to permanent teacher in 2025. Having recently graduated from the University of Pretoria with a Bachelor of Senior Phase and Further Education, Esti specialises in History, Geography and Afrikaans. In addition to her teaching role, she is a beloved tennis coach and organiser. We are excited to see her continue to make a positive impact in the classroom and on the court.
These outstanding professionals join a talented and passionate team of educators at St Mary’s DSG. Together, they are committed to delivering excellence in education, promoting a love for learning and helping our girls become confident young women of integrity and character.
