St Mary’s DSG Girls Take on Comic Con Africa 2026
St Mary’s DSG proudly represented the school at Comic Con Africa 2026, with our girls stepping onto one of the country’s biggest gaming stages and showing that girls belong in the competitive gaming space.
This year, both our Junior and Senior School girls took part in tournaments hosted by RGB Gaming, competing against players from schools and teams across Gauteng.
Our Junior School girls took on two exciting challenges: the Minecraft Rookie Rumble and the Rocket League Boost Cup. From creative problem-solving in Minecraft to fast-paced teamwork and precision in Rocket League, the girls embraced the opportunity to compete, learn and experience Esports at a major event.
Our Senior School girls also represented St Mary’s DSG in two competitive tournaments: the Comic Con Africa Boost Cup High Tournament and the Comic Con Africa Legends Tournament. Playing against experienced competitors, the girls showed composure, teamwork and determination throughout the competition.
One of the most significant aspects of the experience was that St Mary’s DSG was the only all girls school participating. While the teams did not walk away with a trophy this time, our players certainly held their own and demonstrated that they can compete confidently alongside some of the best young gamers at the event.
For the girls, the experience was about more than the results. It was an opportunity to compete on a major stage, build confidence, develop teamwork and strategic thinking, and inspire other girls to see Esports as a space where they can participate and excel.
A huge thank you to RGB Gaming for hosting the tournaments and creating opportunities for young gamers to compete at Comic Con Africa. We also extend our appreciation to Eduvos and Evetech for supporting the event and helping create opportunities for the next generation of gamers.
As St Mary’s DSG continues to grow its Esports programme, experiences like Comic Con Africa are an important part of developing our players and creating greater opportunities for girls in gaming.
The results may not always be measured in trophies. Sometimes, it is about showing up, competing, learning and proving that you belong. Our girls did exactly that.
