Called to Lead: The Licensing and Installation of Mrs Mngambi as Head of Junior School
On Thursday, 9 May, the St Mary's DSG community gathered in reverent celebration during our Ascension Day Eucharist to witness a sacred and significant milestone: the licensing and installation of Mrs Mngambi as Head of the Junior School.
The choice of Ascension Day as the setting for this special occasion was intentional. A central moment in the Christian calendar, Ascension Day symbolises purpose, guidance, and calling. It marks Jesus' ascent into heaven, entrusting his disciples to carry forth His mission on earth—a timely reminder of the divine responsibility placed upon leaders to serve with humility, wisdom, and a heart. It was within this spiritual atmosphere that the school affirmed its values and its commitment to nurturing leadership grounded in faith.
The service was led by The Very Revd Moses Thabethe, Vicar General of the Diocese of Pretoria, who delivered a message to the congregation. He reminded us that leadership is not a quest for worldly accolades but rather a calling to be "the best for the world." His message resonated with the very heart of our school's vision: to empower confident young women of integrity and character to explore their full potential and make a positive contribution to our nation and the world.
In a symbolic moment during the service, the school gifted Mrs Mngambi with a Bible. This sacred text, filled with wisdom, compassion, and justice, serves as a compass for her leadership journey. It reflects St Mary's DSG's core that our leaders will lead with heart, with love for our girls and their wellbeing, and with commitment to placing our community at the centre of all decisions.
For St Mary's DSG, leadership is a daily walk of faith, service, and integrity. It is rooted in the Anglican ethos that has shaped our school since its founding in 1879, when Bishop Henry Bousfield, moved by the need to educate his daughters, began teaching them in his own dining room.
The installation of Mrs Mngambi is a continuation of that legacy. As Head of the Junior School, she now holds the mantle of shaping the early journeys of our girls—those first steps where confidence is nurtured, curiosity is encouraged, and the seeds of purpose are planted.
In honouring this moment, we also reaffirm who we are. We are a school that values leadership rooted in love. We are a community that believes in walking with integrity, generosity of spirit, agility, and a growth mindset. We are Filiae Regis—Daughters of the King—united in purpose and committed to empowering each girl to believe in herself, because we know:
When she believes in herself, she will fly.
