A Life of Faith, Excellence, and Service: Appointment of Mrs Jomari Miller as Head of the Senior School

Raised on a farm outside Belfast, now eMakhazeni, Mpumalanga, Jomari Miller’s story begins in the heart of South Africa, rooted in a family of educators. Her grandparents and her mother were teachers, shaping in her a deep sense of calling from childhood: to educate, inspire, and nurture young lives. That seed of purpose has guided her journey for over three decades.

A proud alumna of the University of Pretoria, Jomari completed her BCom, Higher Education Diploma, and Honours in Economics, all cum laude. She was awarded both the Perscor Award for Best HED Student and the accolade of Best Student across all education degrees — early recognition of her exceptional ability. She later completed the Leadership Development Programme at Wits Business School, adding strategic vision to her teaching excellence.

Her career began at Elandspoort High School, where she taught with energy and passion while coaching sports and mentoring young leaders. In 1998, she joined St Mary’s DSG, where she has remained ever since — not only as Subject Head of Accounting, but also as Head of House, Learning Area Head, and, since 2007, Deputy: Academics.

Her fingerprints are everywhere in the school's life. She has managed the Debutantes' finances, coached netball, championed music, and nurtured countless girls into women of confidence and faith. She initiated inquiry-based learning, spearheaded enrichment initiatives, and large-scale academic events, guiding the Senior School through transformation while securing the best Matric results in St Mary’s history in 2024.

But Jomari’s impact extends beyond academics. She dreamed up and organised the Book Domino Project, which saw 880 copies of Bishop Desmund Tutu’s The Children of God Storybook Bible cascade through the school before being gifted to charities. She created the Day of Discovery, opening career doors through alumnae and parent connections; the Sounds of Spring Competition, giving classical music a home; and the Family Fun Race, bringing community and joy to campus life.

Her development of the Academic Strategic Objectives was described by independent reviewers as “visionary, world-class, and aligned with global educational imperatives.” Yet at the core of her leadership lies the belief that every girl must be nurtured to believe in herself and the difference she can make.

Married to her high school sweetheart, Bloemerus, and mother to two children — Romy, a proud alumna of St Mary’s DSG and now a Chartered Accountant in the Netherlands, and Simon, a WHPS and St Alban’s College alumnus, B.Acc graduate, now playing professional rugby in Japan — Jomari embodies faith, family, and service.

Grounded in Christ, she draws daily on His wisdom for strength and direction. Competitive yet compassionate, humble yet visionary, she believes wholeheartedly: if something is worth doing, it is worth doing well.

Now, as Head of the Senior School, Jomari carries forward her legacy with purpose: to foster excellence, strengthen community connections, and raise confident daughters of the King who will take their place in the world.
